Description
High on a hill, overlooking the city of Jabalpur India, sits the ruins of an ancient fortress. The Rani Durgawati Fort was built by the Gond rular Raja Madan Shah in 1116. The fortress is named after Rani Durgawati, the ruling queen of the area in the mid 1500s. She was a fierce warrior who died fighting for her land and people. Part of what remains of the fortress show wonderful stonework walls and a passageway with beautiful arches. It must have been stunning before it was abandoned.
