Description
An offering of favorite foods, in remembrance of those who have passed, is put out for the Day of the Dead celebration. The Day of the Dead, or Dia de Muertos is a Mexican holiday that takes place on November 1st. The holiday was established to remember, celebrate and pray for friends and family who have passed away. Altars are placed in homes and public locations; they are often decorated with a combination of colorful sugar skulls, marigolds, pictures, skeletons, candles, mementos and food. It is thought that during this heartwarming celebration, that the souls of those who have died come back to visit.
