Description
Storm clouds glow pink and gold over the Sonoran Desert, as the sun sinks behind the mountains in the Arizona sky. During the summer and early fall, parts of Arizona can experience large monsoon storms. These powerful storms arise when cumulus thunderheads, such as the ones in this photograph, start piling up in the sky. When the air currents, temperature and barometric pressure is right, the clouds will let loose a huge downpour of rain onto the thirsty desert. These storms can be dangerous as they often produce a lot of lightening and the rains can lead to flash flooding. These storms can also coincide with high winds that kick up dust and debris.
